NBA: Negotiations Ongoing to sell New Orleans Hornets Franchise

New Orleans majority owner George Shinn is negotiating to sell his team to Gary Chouest, who owns 25 percent of the team since 2007. Gary Chouest is expected to pay about $200 million for George Shinn's remaining shares. The team has struggled this season by only putting up 35 wins, and they are to miss the playoffs for the first time in three years. There was a trade last February for Emeka Okafor, but he struggles to play with the bigger centers and he was only able to put up 10 points and 9 rebounds in 29 minutes, and with Chris Paul's devastating injury, the Hornets were not able to make it to the playoffs. They hope to find a rookie soon that would carry the team to the playoffs next season.

Pau Gasol also re-signs his contract for an additional four years worth $64.7 million, and Lamar Odom signed a four-year contract extension worth $33 million. Phil Jackson gave it a little thought when these players re-signed their contracts. "I'm not going to buy into anything in the three to four years kind of situation," Jackson said. "I just don't think that's in the cards at all. I can look into the season one year at a time right now and feel comfortable with the commitment that I can generate maybe enough energy to get through another year or push the team hard enough as a coach to get done through a year. "But when you talk about those long-term things there's got to be a change here in the near future." He also mentioned that Kobe needs to rest this summer to regain that energy he brings to the court every single night. Kobe has been one of the hardworking players in the league that Jackson has ever worked with, which is why he needs a break.
